Amphibians (class Amphibia), such as frogs, toads, salamanders, newts, and caecilians, are ectothermic (or cold-blooded) animals that metamorphose from a juvenile, water-breathing form to an adult, air-breathing form. Though amphibians typically have four limbs, the Caecilians are notable for being limbless. Unlike other land animals (amniotes), amphibians lay eggs in water. Amphibians are superficially similar to reptiles. Amphibians are ecological indicators, and in recent decades there has been a dramatic decline in amphibian populations around the globe. Many species are now threatened or extinct. Amphibians evolved in the Devonian Period and were top predators in the Carboniferous and Permian Periods, but many lineages were wiped out during the Permian-Triassic extinction. One group, the metoposaurs, remained important predators during the Triassic, but as the world became drier during the Early Jurassic they died out, leaving a handful of relict temnospondyls like Koolasuchus and the modern orders of Lissamphibia. That's what amphibians do- their eggs don't have a protective coating to keep in water. That was the big jump for reptiles to develop! Answered by mudmusher - Mon Apr 28 21:05:13 2008 Does the continued existence of amphibians argue against evolution? Q. I asked this because amphibians and dinosaurs lived at the same time, yet amphibians are still here and are largely unchanged... Answerer # 3---Europeans and Americans are nationalities, not separate species... Asked by comedycatalyst - Fri Feb 1 13:45:09 2008 - - 5 Answers - 1 Comments A. What "evolution" provides more than anything, is a way out...!! That is, we dont have to believe in God or anything he tells us (much less anything he commands us). "Hath God said...?" is the devil's taunt, now as it was in the beginning. The continued existence of Evolution as a belief in untold millions of years leading to the present world, evolving from a primordial world of monsters, is the greatest evidence of it being a diabolic faith. The expected PROOF that Darwin hoped for, never was found. Instead, each missing "link" led to a dozen more missing "links" that were needed for proof. And in fact, the geologic record records an early period where huge chunks of living beings suddenly appeared out of nowhere, with no discernible… [cont.] Answered by wildgirl - Sat Feb 2 20:11:17 2008 Does anyone know if red-eared sliders can be placed in a tank with any other amphibians?
Q. Thinking about getting a turtle, would also like to put a few frogs or little crabs in tank any one have any luck with this? Asked by Mandi T - Sun Dec 9 23:14:24 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. A large red eared slider will eat a young frog. Also, the habitat for a red eared slider will have to accomodate heat, because all reptiles require heat to aid in digestion and a functioning metabolism. Frogs need constant humidity, which will be absent with heat around. Sliders will eat all small fish, frogs, and mollusks such as snails.
