A toad can refer to a number of species of amphibians in the order Anura. A distinction is often made between frogs and toads by their appearance, prompted by the convergent adaptation among so-called "toads" to dry habitats. Many "toads" have leathery skin for better water retention, and brown coloration for camouflage. They also tend to burrow. However, these adaptations are not reliable indicators of its ancestry. Because taxonomy reflects only evolutionary relationships, any distinction between frogs and toads is irrelevant to their classification. For instance, many members of the frog families Bombinatoridae, Discoglossidae, Pelobatidae, Rhinophrynidae, Scaphiopodidae, and some species from the Microhylidae family are commonly called "toads". However, the only family exclusively given the common name "toad" is Bufonidae, or the "true toads". Some "true frogs" of the genus Rana have also adapted to burrowing habitats, while a bufonid species in the genus Atelopus are conversely known by the common name "harlequin frogs". Similarly to frogs, toads also display metamorphosis from tadpole to sexually mature adult. From Wikipedia under the

Every night we have up to 8 or so toads congregating at our front door. Does anyone know of a cheap but effective way to get rid of them? Thank you. Asked by Moshe K - Wed Mar 11 02:52:44 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Do you leave your outdoor lights on? Does that attact bugs? Toads love bugs. If you have any glass in your doors or near by windows, that can also let inside out and that will also attract bugs. I say this because we live in the woods of East Texas near a lake and creek. There are toads and frogs galore and we don't turn our outdoor lights on except as really needed. Otherwise there are bugs and critters all over the front porch. Answered by oil field trash - Wed Mar 11 11:44:07 2009 Is there a spray to repel toads away from our back patio? Q. We have a back patio where we keep dog food bowl and water. The toads keep going in there. Even if we put the bowls at a hirer level where the dog can get to it but not the toads they hop or get in there somehow. We don't want to fence the patio because that will keep the dog confined and not free to roam the backyard. HELP? When we first moved here our dog tried to eat a toad. To this day I don't know what happened. The toad was there, I turned my back than heard my dog gasping for air and foaming at the mouth. I rushed her to the vet and apparently she didn't eat it but may have tried to than dropped it and it hopped away quickly. Now she doesn't go near them thank goodness she's scared of them. Answered by snowman - Sat Sep 29 11:59:32 2007 what temp do I need to have aquarium to breed firebelly toads ?
Q. I have chines firebelly toads.. 8 of them and have had them for about 2 years.. I see them on top of eachother and wonder if maybe my temp is not right for them to breed and lay eggs ?? Do I have to have aquarium at a certain temp ?? Help ?? Asked by gallio51305 - Sat Sep 15 00:40:10 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Room temperatures are usually suitable for fire bellies. However, bumping up water temp can help females lay eggs. Try upping the temps to about 75-77F, but do not excede 80F. You will need a second tank at the about the same temps to transfer the eggs to. Fire bellies, as I'm sure you know, will eat almost anything - including their own eggs and tadpoles. Have you allowed them to hibernate? This is almost essential for fire belly breeding.
