How many crickets do you feed a toad a day?
Q. I gave my toad three crickets and he ate them all in less then a minute Is that enough to feed it today?
Asked by yowza65 - Mon Jul 7 19:28:36 2008 - - 5 Answers - 1 Comments
A. If it's a fire-bellied toad, you can over-feed it. Fire-bellied toads are to be fed 3-4 small crickets every other day. All frogs (toads are actually just a type of frog) will pounce on food and eat it as fast as they can. It doesn't mean your toad is starving. It's just how they eat.

How do I feed a blind toad?
Q. I have ton of toads outside of my barn under the dusk to dawn light (and lots of bugs). One particular toad has caught my attention, mostly because he is usually the only one left on the driveway when I go out to the barn in the morning. While the other toads are big and fat he is boney and thin. On closer inspection he is missing and eye and seems to not be able to see out of the other. (lawn mower, weed eater accident perhaps?) I have started to feed him june bugs, but it is hard to get him to take them. I have to continue throwing them at him until finally he catches it and eats it. I have never seen him catch a bug without my help and wonder how he is staying alive. Does anyone know how many bugs he should be eating a day? Any… [cont.]

A. Get crickets from a pet shop first because they are safe for him to eat 'cause they don't potentionaly have pesticides, herbicides, etc. on them, and pet shops usually feed their crickets some form of gut load type food, this puts nutrients in them making tem better for the toad. Try rubbing the crickets lightly under his chin and just experiment to see where he is most likely to take crickets. If he is all skin and bones unly feed him one or two a day untill he starts getting stronger, then he will stop eating when he's had enough. Good Luck

Can I put a green tree frog and a fire belly toad in the same habitat?
Q. I am curious if I can put a green tree frog and a fire belly toad in the same habitat, or tank. Is this possible? Okay, thanks everyone. -Elizabeth K, I have never been to a Josh Groban concert, but it's one of my dreams!

A. NO A: Fire belly toads are toxic and will foul the water source, altho this exposure might not kill the tree frog straight away it will shorten its lifespan dramatically. and if he taod is eaten by the frog then it will likely die. B: fire belly toads and green tree frogs need different environmental needs, such as temp and enclosure layout, it'll be almost impossible to create the correct types of set up for both of them. C: all the other mixing issues such as stress, disease/bacterial/parasit ic transfer and agression. (more indepth here

A. i am afraid you can't, horney toads (desert horned lizards) are a lizard who like very hot and dry tanks, so will not do well in an aquatic environment and will probably die, to be quite honest a horned toad is an endangered lizard and are extremely hard to keep in captivity, they eat a diet of 95% harvester ants, they don't like to be held and only tolerate people because they get food, they rarely last longer than a year in captivity, i think the best thing you can do is too release the horney toad so it can live its life in peace, the more they are taken from the wild the more likely they are to become extinct, i am sure as well it is illegal to take them from the wild, put the little fella back where you found it best of luck honey

A. If you put the sausage in the batter raw then all the fat will come out of them as they're cooking and keep it moist. the best thing is to lightly cook your sausage and throw away all the fat and have the oven hot enough before you put it in and dont have the mix too thick, put it on the top shelf in the oven till its risen and then put it in the middle with the heat turned down a bit.

What are the recorded helminth parasites from the green toad Bufo viridis?
Q. Helminth parasites include cestodes, trematodes, nematodes and acanthocephala that live in the digestive tract of the green toad.
Asked by amarmkm82 - Tue Dec 11 22:45:26 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. American toads had a higher relative abundance of nematodes, 59%, than larval cestodes, 31%, and larval and adult trematodes, 10%, whereas leopard frogs had a higher relative abundance of larval cestodes, 71.3%, and larval and adult trematodes, 25.3%, than nematodes 3.4%. This is related to ecological differences in habitat and dietary preferences between these 2 anuran species. Helminth communities of blue-spotted salamanders were depauperate and were dominated by larval trematodes, 94%, and few nematodes, 6%. Low helminth species richness in this host species is related to this salamander's relatively small host body size, smaller gape size, lower vagility, and more fossorial habitat preference than the other 2 anuran species. How many crickets should I feed my fire bellied toad?

A. it depends on if it is an adult or if it is young. you should probly put in about 7 and let him/her hunt them.(this will also help if you dont have time to feed) make a place for the crickets to hide also. they will come out when they need food and they can also breed to make more. but if u want to feed them every day i would suggest 3. also mealworms make a great diet for toads =)

What do you need to feed a pet toad?
Q. My brother got a toad that he raised from a tadpole and wants to keep it as a pet. What should we do to take care of it?
Asked by <3flute - Sat May 3 12:48:06 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Your best bet is to go and get a book about keeping amphibians as it will help you learn about keeping them healthy and comfortable. If it is a wild, British toad you should really wait until the warmer Spring (like now!) and release it into the wild by the same pond that you caught the tadpole from. Toads have an incredibly strong instinct to return to the ponds where they spawned in order to breed. by keeping one in captivity you are frustrating this natural urge. Try to convince your brother to put the interests of his little toad first and let him live a natural life. If he is really interested in keeping amphibians as pets then there are plenty of species more suitable available in pet stores. Why not do some reading? Kally

How is my oriental fire bellied toad tank?
Q. Alright, this will be my first time with these toads. There still aren't any (toads) in the tank, because I want the tank to be completely ready. The water is about 70 degrees F, so I was thinking about getting a submersible heater. Also, the moss will not stay wet, even if I spray it when I turn off the light, the moss is dry by morning. How does the tank look? I know the filter is pretty visible, and the right part of the water side is a little boring, so what should I put there? Any hardy live plants? Any suggestions for the tank are appreciated. Some tips on taking care of the toads would be great too. Any pictures of oriental fire bellied toad tanks for inspiration?

A. I keep fire-bellied toads, and have a some-what similar set-up. You've done a real good job, looks fantastic. To make the water side more "interesting" You might try putting a larger rock that breaks the water surface over there to give the toads an island. I wouldn't worry about the moss too much, plenty of water available for the toads. If it is a concern to you, you can get a mister that can run off a timer, the only problem is that they are hard to hide. Looks like you have enough room to have a small group of them. You're on the right track, good luck/have fun with them.

A. That's an odd one but I'd say that it has nothing to do with witchcraft. Dreams are the way your psyche interprets pressures and things around you. They are not real in of themselves. Is the old woman someone you guys know? Is the frog in a location that is familiar? More clues may help us unravel this dream.

Q. I found a baby toad in my back yard and i was wondering if it is possible to keep it as a pet and if so how? I found a baby toad in my back yard and I was wondering if it is posible to keep it as a pert if so how? If I let it go the chances that it will survive are quite slim because of the area I live in.

A. The very best and most humane way to keep it alive is to place it right back where you found it as soon as possible. If you truly are ready to commit to a pet toad, go to a pet store tomorrow and buy a domestically raised one. I feel that keeping a perfectly healthy wild animal away from the life it should be living for your own amusement is rather cruel. EDIT: Its mother obviously survived to maturity without any trouble, and so can this baby. Actually, it's doubtful it's a baby at all - many toads are very small at adulthood. Can you imagine using the DNA from a triceratops and crossing it with a toad?
Q. Wouldn't that make a true Horned Toad? Can you see yourself riding one, hopping sixty or seventy feet at a time on something with three really sharp horns on it's head? How cool would that be?
